A New Idea

My mind has been racing with an idea for a training course centered around the topic of “business operations for freelancers”.

A rough sense of the topics I’m thinking of include:

  • Contract negotiation
  • Sales pipeline management
  • Account management
  • Project management
  • Product management
  • Team building
  • Cash flow management
  • Schedule planning
  • Business development
  • Client relations

Some of these may overlap and the list is subject to change and better definition. The problem I’m attempting to solve is this:

For a lot of freelancers and small companies, there seems to be a wall they hit at some point in their growth. Some combination of factors such as bandwidth, cash flow, and other variables make it really hard to move past a certain point.

How often do you hear of a freelancer getting “x” amount of clients and then having to fall back because things went haywire? Or a small company getting to 5-10 employees and then having to scale back down because things went wrong for some seemingly inexplicable reason? The milestones at which these problems occur vary, obviously, but the issues themselves are very real.

I’ve hit that wall as both a freelancer and the owner of a small agency. I know what those problems look like.


I know what success looks like on the other side of that wall, and I want to help other people get there.
